A Road Research Laboratory will soon be established at IIT (BHU), Varanasi, under the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Institute and GR Infraprojects Limited (GRIL) in June. Applicable for a period of 5 years, the MoU will play a vital role in research for the construction of sustainable and eco-friendly roads within the country. With the primary objective set up, the Institute’s researchers and other country experts will take up studies related to road safety, environmental and social impacts.Union Minister for Road, Transport, Highways, and MSME Nitin Gadkari, who was also in attendance while signing the MoU, congratulated and expressed his pride for the project undertaken by IIT (BHU). The MoU will also be effective for enhancing the quality of road construction besides reducing the expenses through the development of performance-based mix design and mechanistic pavement design for Indian roads, to name a few.
