IIT (BHU), on 9th of December 2022, hosted its distinguished alumnus Shri Nikesh Arora (EEE’ 89) on the campus. Nikesh Arora, a 1989 graduate from the Electrical Engineering department at the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University). He is currently the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Palo Alto Networks.
While at the Institute, he had the fortune of reliving his young days by visiting his hostel and department after 33 long years. As he set foot on the holy city of Banaras, he did not miss the chance to revisit the local tea spots, the Kashi Vishwanath temple, and attend aarti at the beautiful ghats.
He was received as the Chief Guest at the 102nd convocation ceremony at Banaras Hindu University. Mr. Arora had a great time interacting with students whose education he has supported through the IIT (BHU) Foundation Scholarship. This means-based scholarship endowment fund supports incoming students at IIT (BHU) by providing steady and sustainable monetary support covering full tuition and medical insurance costs for 4 years.
Nikesh Arora established the IIT (BHU) Foundation Access Fund with a $ 2 million endowment, allowing underserved students to prepare for technology careers. In making the gift, he expressed his vision behind the IIT (BHU) Foundation Access Fund.
He said, “As alumni, we know first-hand of the school’s remarkable programs, facilities, and faculty. Together with Palo Alto Networks, I’m proud to support IIT (BHU) as it broadens access to education and prepares future leaders in critical areas of technology- I look forward to many more of us joining together in support.”
By supporting the scholarship fund, alumni can help more students in the IIT (BHU) community afford a college education now and for years to come. Besides, the endowment structure means that every contribution, big or small, leaves a lasting legacy of education for students because endowment funds are held in perpetuity and invested for long-term growth while providing an income for the purpose designated by the donor(s).
It’s the best way to give back to a place that gave you so much to start your journey.
