The 13th convocation ceremony of IIT BHU, held on October 28 at Swatantrata Bhawan, was a momentous occasion marking the achievements and aspirations of the graduating Class of 2026. In a grand celebration, 1,959 students received degrees across various fields, including 1,060 B.Tech, 319 IDD, 263 M.Tech/M.Pharma, 49 M.Sc, and 253 Ph.D. fellows, reflecting the institute’s commitment to fostering excellence in education and research.
The ceremony commenced with a tribute to the institute’s legacy, starting with the garlanding of Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya’s statue, followed by the lighting of the lamp, Vedic chants, and the resonant institute anthem. Padma Shri Dr. Kota Harinarayan, Chairman of the Board of Governors, declared the convocation open, setting an inspiring tone for the proceedings. In his address, Prof. Amit Patra, Director of IIT BHU, presented an overview of the institute’s recent milestones and initiatives, emphasizing the strides made in research, technology, and innovation.
A significant highlight of the event was the presentation of medals and awards to meritorious students.125 medals and prizes were distributed among 60 deserving students, celebrating academic excellence and hard work. The honors included 97 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 1 Prince of Wales medal, and 26 other prizes, symbolizing the students’ dedication and relentless pursuit of knowledge.
The convocation also recognized alumni whose accomplishments have brought pride to IIT BHU. Eight alumni were presented with the Distinguished Alumnus/Alumna Award for their significant contributions across various domains. Prof. Anuj Srivastava (Electronics) was honored in the academic field, Anil K. Sachdev (Metallurgical) and D. Goswami (Mechanical) were celebrated for their achievements in industry and entrepreneurship, and V. K. Raina (Civil) received recognition in the professional field. Awadhesh Kumar Singh (Mechanical) was acknowledged for his contributions to public life, while Hema Singh (Electronics) was awarded for her work in research and innovation. The Young Alumnus Achiever Award was bestowed upon Sudipta Dutta (Electrical) and Shubham Paliwal (Electronics) for their early contributions to their respective fields. These awards were announced by Prof. Hiralal Pramanik, Dean of Resources and Alumni, emphasizing the institute’s strong alumni network.
The convocation concluded with the distribution of degrees, a proud moment for each graduate as they embarked on their professional journey. The ceremony was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Padma Shri Dr. Kota Harinarayan, Prof. Amit Patra, and Registrar Rajan Srivastava.
