Alumni Association of Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University), Varanasi, a central alumni body has been set up in the Institute to have a closer link and interaction with the alumni community. The idea of which is articulated by one of our most illustrious alumni, Dr Kota Harinarayana, with the passion to bring IIT (BHU) in the forefront of Technology Institutes of the country, as it was during his time as a student here in our Institute. Harinarayan ji currently serves as the chairman of BOG, IIT (BHU) and is better known as the ‘Father of the indigenous fighter aircraft program- Tejas’. The body will be managed by alumni even while its office will be in the institute.
Rejoicing a 100 year old legacy, the Institute’s alumni body is expected to have at least 20,000 to 30,000 members. A few key objectives are:
1. A Central Alumni Body based in the Institute will be able do this more effectively, because – (a) alumni all over the world will be able to bond much better directly with the institute; (b) students will be able to participate on a day to day basis with the alumni community;
2. The Central body will have representatives from all other alumni associations;
3. Organizing Alumni meets/reunions;
and many more…
Harboring a common goal for the betterment of our Alma Mater, the spirit of cooperation between various chapters, the Institute, students and the Central body, shall establish the Institute as the finest in the nation.
