Introduction

The proposal aims to establish a Wireless Networks Laboratory that allows UG and PG students to design, simulate, analyze, and verify the performance of different wireless network protocols.
The laboratory will provide the following several functions including: a) Network modelling – Students can model networks using devices like switches, routers, and nodes, and connect them with links. b) Application traffic – Students can model how application traffic flows through the network. c) Software Defined Network (SDN) simulations with an SDN controller that can control packet forwarding. e) Packet-level discrete event simulations to analyze the behavior and performance of modelled networks.
The lab establishment will mainly include the following two components:
- An academic licence bundle of NetSim Software and
- 30 workstations with specifications that can support the proposed software.
Estimated Timeline for the Project
06 Months from conception to full operational status.
Expected Impact
The laboratory will help the students to understand various features of wireless networks. It will help the students to deploy the real field wireless networks testbed in the future. The impact of this training will prepare students for successful careers in rapidly advancing sectors like wireless communications, the Internet of Things, and Cyber-Physical Systems fostering innovation and contributing to academic excellence.
