On September 10th and 12th, 2024, Dr. Amit Patra, the Director of IIT BHU, embarked on an impactful visit to the United States, where he met with esteemed alumni of our college in New Jersey and New York. These gatherings, hosted by dedicated alumni, provided an opportunity to strengthen the connection between the institution and its successful alumni network.
New Jersey Event – September 10th, 2024: Fostering Entrepreneurial Spirit
The first event, hosted by Anil Singh (1995 Electronics) at his residence in Hillsborough, New Jersey, brought together 15 alumni for an informal evening with Dr. Patra. The discussions focused on several critical areas that could benefit both students and faculty at IIT BHU:
- Encouraging entrepreneurship among students through exposure to the journeys of successful alumni, instilling confidence to pursue their own ventures post-graduation.
- Developing industry-relevant coursework at the undergraduate level to better prepare students for real-world challenges.
- Upgrading facilities and equipment for extracurricular activities, particularly for music enthusiasts at the KP complex.
- Creating partnerships and collaborations with the industry to benefit both faculty and students, with a particular focus on advancing AI research and leadership at IIT BHU.
The evening was not only a chance for reflection on the institution’s growth but also an avenue for alumni to express their eagerness to give back to IIT BHU. The structured involvement of alumni in mentoring and guiding students in their areas of expertise was highlighted as a key priority for the foundation moving forward.
New York Event – September 12th, 2024: Building Bridges and Future Collaborations
Two days later, Dr Patra attended a second alumni event in New York City, hosted by Soumyo Sarkar (1979 Mechanical) and sponsored by Subhas Khara (1979 Mechanical). This gathering attracted 19 alumni, including two board members of the IIT BHU Foundation. The discussions from this event centered around creating pathways for alumni to contribute in meaningful ways to the institution:
- Several alumni emphasized the importance of industry partnerships that could help faculty enhance their research efforts. Notably, Suresh Govindraj offered his expertise in supporting faculty research initiatives.
- The idea of setting up an Agritech park on campus was discussed, with Vani Dantam contributing valuable insights.
- Alumni such as Naresh Jain encouraged others to contribute financially to the IIT BHU Foundation, recognizing the vital role that the institution has played in shaping their careers.
Both events underlined the unwavering commitment of IIT BHU’s alumni to give back to their alma mater, be it through financial support or the sharing of knowledge and resources. Dr. Patra’s visits further solidified these bonds, ensuring that the alumni network remains a vibrant part of IIT BHU’s legacy.
On behalf of the IIT BHU Foundation, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Anil Singh, Soumyo Sarkar, and Subhas Khara for their generosity in hosting these memorable events. We also look forward to the continued collaboration between alumni and the institution, driving IIT BHU towards greater heights.
