However, this year with the same destination but through a different route, for the first time ever the entire placement season progressed completely online.
As a ritual every year, the process of the placements of students graduating from the Institute, were facilitated by The Training & Placement Office, IIT (BHU) Varanasi, assisted by a committee comprising representatives of students from the undergraduate and postgraduate engineering streams. Besides, it also sets up internship and training programs for students under collaborations with leading organizations.
It’s rightly said, “ kuch toh baat hai banaras ki mitti mein…” because the distinctiveness of students of IIT (BHU) is depicted by the fact that they imbibe all values & personality traits of the historically cultural city of Benaras along with diversity of the BHU campus within which this Institute resides.
It was with the consistent hard work of these students and tireless efforts of the Training and Placement Cell that brought this Placement Season to a successful conclusion even in these unprecedented times.
What’s special this year?

Detailed statistics can be found below:
The excellent placements this year was the result of our collective and continuous commitment to create a vibrant and technology savvy environment where excellence is the credential. As the Director of IIT (BHU) proudly states, “ Our excellent placement record over years speaks about the value of our students to their employers.”
How do placements take place?
The placement season runs through the course of the year commencing in the last week of July through to March. The Placement Office interacts with many industries in the country, of which nearly 200 companies visit the campus for holding campus interviews. Pre-Placement Talks are also conducted throughout this period as per mutual convenience. Placement Interviews begin from December and go on till March. Job offers, dates of interviews, selection of candidates etc. are announced through the Training & Placement Office.
Few words from our alumni. Let’s see what changed and what remains the same.
The conventional procedure of placements has changed over the years, IIT (BHU) being a century old has witnessed a considerable drift in the past.
Recalling his fond memories of placements, an alumnus of Mechanical 1995 batch shared with us, “ Unlike today, we had our schedules of interviews and tests put up on the board in front of the Office. We used to borrow formal suits from our friends and go for interviews on cycles. And of course the excitement of going to Lanka to make a call back home after being placed was unmatchable. “.
Amazed by how it has changed over the past quarter century, a student of Chemical 2021 batch (and now an alumnus), shared his experience as a part of the first batch to be placed online. He added, “Of course our placements were quite different from our seniors. I remember seeing my seniors dressing up each other for interviews and going to Aryabhatta hostels. Now we are supposed to dress up ourselves and switch on the camera in our rooms. We had been allocated to Telegram groups for communications and announcements. However, this virtual mode has made it convenient for recruiters to get in touch with their potential employees as they don’t have to travel all the way to Varanasi. Things have definitely changed.”
It’s time to bid adieu…
Changes are inevitable, but one thing that has never changed is the grit and integrity with which the students of IIT (BHU) have performed every consecutive year. Since 1919, thousands of students have returned to their homes with both a smile on their faces because after 4 years of hard work they’ve finally earned their dream job and with moistness in their eyes as it was an end to this blissful 4 year journey.
This year as well our students have aced every opportunity presented to them with utmost diligence and we wish them good luck for all their future endeavours.
